About All About Dogs

Our History

All About Dogs was established by Renée deVilliers in the summer of 1996 with the desire to educate owners in all manners of “dog.” Over the years, Renée attended many seminars, lectures and conferences on animal behaviour, training, aggression, health, genetics and agility, by both Canadian and international presenters. From this base of knowledge, she developed a highly successful system of raising and training dogs through positive reward training, based on an in depth knowledge of canine behaviour, genetics and physical development.

Over the past 16 years All About Dogs has been providing group and private training as well as consultations for aggression and other behaviour problems. In January 2015, All About Dogs finally found a facility large enough to encompass all our programs and services in one centre that is now: “all about dogs” all the time!

Philosophy & Training Methods

At All About Dogs, we believe positive reinforcement training is the best way to create a happy and confident dog who understands what is expected of him.

We teach owners how to establish boundaries at home and employ problem behaviour prevention strategies from early puppyhood onwards. Training and behaviour problems are resolved without the punishment- based techniques that commonly result in fear, aggression, or deterioration of the bond between dog and owner.

Instead we utilize positive methods based on well-established learning theories and behavioural science tht are humane, practical and effective. We teach marker-based training, either with a clicker or word, combined with rewards of all kinds (e.g., food, toys, play, and praise).

All our training programs reflect a comprehensive understanding of the dog’s natural behaviour, and take in respect learning abilities as well as the dog’s mental and physical developmental stages. In our classes we strive to create a relaxed and enjoyable learning experience as we believe that the human part of the equation needs as much support and understanding as the canine component.

Most people learn more quickly when not subjected to criticisms and negative feedback, and therefore, a positive approach to the training of the people is an integral part of all our programs.

Our Mission

Our mission at All About Dogs is to provide the education and support dog owners need from the time they adopt a puppy or shelter dog to enable dog owners to deepen their understanding, respect and delight in their canine companions as well as create dogs who are welcome members of our community.

Let us help you bring out the best in your dog!

Our Vision

At All About Dogs our vision is to help reduce irresponsible breeding practices and ownership through owner education. We endeavour to improve the lives of dogs through positive training and raise their standard of living by offering healthy foods, appropriate toys, training tools and education about accident and injury prevention.

We promote fun activities between dogs and owners that lead to successful relationships based on mutual respect. The All About Dogs team makes every effort to build a creative and supportive network of positive trainers, who act as heralds of positive reinforcement-based training in our community.

Our centre will be the platform for creating a stronger presence and voice for positive and successful training techniques and to give people a viable and accessible alternative to many of the harsh, outdated methods currently being show cased and popularized by the media.
